教学目标:
知识目标

I. Pre-reading: Lead in the topic.
1) Show pictures of two choices to a valley.
2) Let the students have a discussion:
1. Which alternative will make more profit?
2. Which alternative is better? Why?
3) Fill in a table about the reasons of different choices.
II. While-reading
1. Skimming: Skim the story for the gist and answer the questions below.
1) In the story, what did Harry Saleem decide to do first?
2) What did he decide to do next?
3) As a result of these two choices, what might happen to him?
2. Scanning: Scan the story quickly and answer these questions.
1) What is the name of the valley, and where is it?
2) What had the valley been a few months before?
3). How ill is Saleem?
4) Is the new medicine working well?
5) What does the doctor need to get to make the medicine?
III. Careful reading
1. Match the main idea with each part.
