It is a well-designed, complicated trap. It is a carefully plotted marriage. Main characters Mrs. Mooney ----- a pitiful but determined woman Polly ----- a slim girl of a nineteen; had habit of glancing upwards when she spoke with anyone Jack Mooney----- the Madams son, was clerk to a commission agent in Fleet Street Mr. Doran----- a man in his mid-thirties ,has worked in a Catholic wine-merchant’s office for many years. Plot of The Boarding House Mrs. Mooney is a pitiful but determined woman. After experiencing a frustrated marriage with her drunken, abusive husband, she gets separation from him and gives “him neither money nor food nor house-room”. Then, she sets up a boarding house to support herself and her two children----- Jack and Polly.
