1. T invites Ss to watch a video and answer:
What impressed you most? Where are the children from?
2. Show the students a map which shows the location of Papua New Guinea, show students a picture to arouse their interests about Jo and Jo’s volunteering work she did in PNG.
利用网络视频,创设情境,引出主题及背景。激活学生背景知识,引发学生对PNG国家和Jo志愿者工作的兴趣。

Read the pre-reading paragraph, title and the first paragraph, answer the following questions
Q1: What is the writing style?
Q2: Who wrote the letter? Whom did she write to?

Step 2:
Read the second paragraph and find the main idea and supporting details.
After reading, let students to find key words about main idea: bush school, made of bamboo, roofs of grass, muddy track, up to two hours.
Ask them 3 questions:
What can these key words show?
-The school condition is tough.
What can the phrase “Good mornings” show?
-The boys are kind towards their teacher.
What is the main idea for para2?
-Facts about school.
Step 3: Read the third paragraph and find the main idea and supporting details.
