Yuka Sasaki and her colleagues at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, set out to investigate the 7 of this effect. Dr Sasaki knew this effect probably has something to do with how humans 8 . The puzzle was what benefit would be gained from it when performance might be 9 the next day. She also knew from previous work conducted on birds and dolphins that these animals 10 half of their brains to sleep 11 so that they can rest while remaining alert enough to avoid predators.
