西尔维娅·普拉斯的家庭理想在《西尔维娅·普拉斯日记:未删节版》中的体现 摘要 自第二次世界大战以来,普拉斯在美国文坛上的影响就不容小觑,她也因为她的反映男女两性地位不平等的言论而成为了推动女权运动的先驱人物。在当时整个美国社会尊崇男主外,女主内的传统家庭理想的背景下,她敢于冲破世俗的眼光,追求自由平等的家庭理想。本文旨在从《西尔维娅·普拉斯日记:未删节版》入手,着眼于二十世纪四十年代至六十年代整个美国社会大背景下美国人的家庭理想,分析普拉斯的家庭理想在普拉斯日记的体现及其形成的主要影响因素。 关键词:西尔维娅·普拉斯,《西尔维娅·普拉斯日记:未删节版》,家庭理想, 美国人的家庭理想 Sylvia Plath’s Domestic Ideal Reflected in The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath Abstract Sylvia Plath has been recognized as one of the most influential American woman as well as an excellent speaker for feminism since the WWII. She pursued her own domestic ideal in spite of the traditional domestic ideal which suggests that women belong to the households. The aim of this paper is to discuss Plath’s domestic ideal reflected on her Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath(1950-1962) published in 2000 and the influencing factors of the formation of her domestic ideal. Key Words: Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath, Domestic Ideal, American domestic ideal 1. Introduction Sylvia Plath, an outstanding American women writer, poet and novelist, was born on October 27, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father, Otto Plath died when she was 8 because of some complications of diabetes mellitus, which was said to be one of the leading causes of Plath’s later suicides. Afterwards, her mother, Aurelia Schober, had to take a teaching job to maintain the security and stability of the family. In 1950, Plath received the admission to Smith College and achieved excellent grades. Then Plath ggraduated with the highest honors, by which she obtained a Fulbright scholarship in Cambridge and went there for further study, during which Plath met and fell in love with the British poet Ted Hughes, and married him in 1956. The couple had a happy marriage at first, spending their honeymoon in Spain, sharing the households and exchanging ideas about each other’s writings. In June, 1957, Plath completed her B.A. Degree at Cambridge University. Afterwards they crossed the Atlantic Ocean and a
