The reading text is an expository article, introducing the development of Chinese characters. The text mainly describes the development history of the Chinese character writing system for thousands of years in chronological order and connection - explaining the four important roles of the Chinese character writing system in the inheritance of Chinese civilization for thousands of years. The language is concise and focused. After reading the text, students are required to truly experience the charm of Chinese characters, experience the feelings of home and country, and enhance cultural confidence.
Analysis of Learners
The students are freshman in high school. After years of English learning, students have certain English reading ability and oral communication ability of simple topics. For the reading of this expository text with Chinese characters as the theme, students will have a certain curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Also, they have already had the themselves values and cultural awareness. However, they still need to be guided by the teacher to understand and grasp the writing intention of author better.
Teaching Objectives
Ss will be able to grasp the new words and phrases such as “base, symbol, variety, appreciate, global affairs...”
