Grammar: Subject-Verb Agreement

Teaching aims:
1. Study and sum up some special rules of Subject-Verb Agreement. 2. Train students’ ability of learning Grammar.
3. Stimulate the students’ interests of learning English.
Teaching important points:
1. Enable the students to master some special rules of Subject-Verb
Agreement.
2. Help the students consolidate the form of the verb that the collective
nouns should take.
Teaching difficult points:
The form of the verb that the collective nouns(family, team, class…) and
Indefinite pronouns should take.
Teaching procedures:

Part one: Collective nouns as subjects
1. Try to finish the following tasks according to the sentences. The team is the best in our city.
The audience was increasing(
The group is made up of seven people.
The team are training on the field(
The audience were all moved to tears(
The group are dancing on the stage.
Task 1: Discuss the rule between the verb and collective nouns. Task 2: Find out more collective nouns.
2. Conclude the rule.
3. Do some exercises.
Fill in each blank with words from the box. Part two: Indefinite pronouns as subjects
1. Show students a famous quote and finish the following tasks.
Task1: Find out the relationship between the subject and verb.
Task 2: Find out more Indefinite Pronouns.
