As we wrap up the year, it is crucial to reflect on our accomplishments, failures, and learnings. In this year-end summary, I will share my insights and experiences as a designer in 202X.The Challenges202X started with the pandemic still looming over us, affecting businesses, communities, and individuals. The design industry was not immune, and many companies had to pause or cut their budgets, resulting in layoffs. As a freelancer, I had to pivot my business strategy, considering the economic, health, and social factors. I focused on building my online presence, ramping up my portfolio, and expanding my network. Fortunately, I managed to secure new clients and projects, helped by the remote nature of my work.Another challenge was the increased global attention on social justice, equality, and sustainability. Designers, like many other professionals, had to reckon with their role in perpetuating or fighting systemic injustices. We had to educate ourselves on diversity, inclusion, and human-centered design principles to create products that serve everyone, regardless of their race, gender, or disability. We also had to embrace sustainability practices to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the planet. While these changes were necessary and overdue, they required a lot of self-reflection, humility, and collaboration.The Transitions202X also marked a significant shift in the design industry, driven by technology and user behavior.
