Some of his best works include The Return of the Native, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Tess of the D’ Urbervilles and Jude, the Obscure. His novels had an indelible impact during his time and also till date many of his novels inspire theatre productions as well as films. His novels, which reflect the Victorian society with all its idiosyncrasies, were perceive as irreligious.
