Enable students to be interested in English poems.
Enable students to learn some basic knowledge about English poems.
Enable students to write some simple English poems.
Teaching important points:

Explaining, discussing, singing, imitative writing.
Teaching aids:
Multi-media, tape.
Teaching procedures:
Step Ⅰ: Lead-in
Teach students an English nursery rhyme and show them a picture to lead in “poem”, and remind them of some familiar poems o r nursery rhymes they have learned.
Lead in an English poem to let students feel interested in it, teach them to chant or sing.
Ask students to discuss in groups about “why do people write poems?” Then, ask some of them to show their opinions.
Step Ⅱ: Learning
Mention a little about Chinese poets, and learn English poets (Shelley and Shakespeare)
Let students understand the basic types of English poems (on page
10) and analyse some of their typical features.
Poem A, nursery rhyme.
Ask students to listen to the tape first and follow the tape to sing twice. Then, let them find out the features of it(word, mockingbird;sing, ring……). Finally, help students practise the rhyming words.
Poem B and C, list poems.
Ask students to listen to Poem B and find out the features of it (I saw, I saw, I saw……)
Get students to read Poem C and find out the features of it(If, If, If……). Then, let them practise “If I were……, I would……”.
Step Ⅲ: Imitative writing
Ask students to imitate the poem “To my parents, thank you” or else to write their own poems (1. nursery rhyme for rhyming 2. list poem).
Step Ⅳ: Review
Review what has been learned. (English poems)
