Sonnet8英文赏析整理
Sonnet 8 is a sonnet written by William Shakespeare, and it is a part of his collection of 154 sonnets. In this particular sonnet, Shakespeare explores the theme of the passage of time and the inevitability of aging. He compares the beauty of youth to the beauty of nature, highlighting the transient nature of both. The sonnet begins with the speaker addressing a young man, urging him to make the most of his youth and beauty. The first quatrain sets the stage by describing the beauty and perfection of youth. Shakespeare uses vivid imagery to portray the young mans physical beauty, comparing it to a rose in its prime: Music to hear, why hearst thou music sadly? / Sweets with sweets war not, joy delights in joy: / Why lovst thou that which thou receivst not gladly, / Or else receivst with pleasure thine annoy? (lines 1-4). The speaker questions why the young man is melancholic and suggests that he should embrace the joys that come with his youth and beauty. In the second quatrain, Shakespeare introduces the time element and emphasizes the fleeting nature of youth. He compares the young mans beauty to the changing seasons, suggesting that just as the beautiful flowers bloom and wither, the young mans youthful beauty will also fade away: If the true concord of well-tuned sounds, / By unions married, do offend thine ear, / They do but sweetly chide thee, who confounds / In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear (lines 5-8). The speaker implores the young man not to squander his youth, but rather to embrace it fully. The third quatrain further develops the theme of the passage of time, depicting youth as a prime time for procreation and continuation of ones lineage. Shakespeare uses metaphorical language comparing the young mans beauty to a summers day and the speakers verse to the gentle breeze that will carry the young mans beauty from one generation to the next: Fair, kind, and true is all my argument, / Fair, kind, and true, varying to other word
