The aim of this report is to present the progress made in translating passive voice in scientific texts using the “Xin, Da, Qie” principle. Xin, Da, Qie Principle The Xin, Da, Qie principle is a translation principle developed by the Chinese translator, Yan Fu. The principle states that when translating a text from a foreign language to Chinese, the translation should adhere to three principles: Xin (faithfulness), Da (expression) and Qie (appropriateness). Xin refers to the principle of maintaining faithfulness to the original text and ensuring accuracy in translation. Da refers to the principle of expression, which involves ensuring that the translated text effectively conveys the intended meaning of the original text. Qie refers to the principle of appropriateness, which involves ensuring that the translated text is appropriate for the target audience, context and culture. Applying Xin, Da, Qie Principle to Passive Voice Translation When translating passive voice in scientific texts, it is important to adhere to the Xin, Da, Qie principle to ensure accuracy and clarity in the translated text. The following strategies can be used: 1. Identify the Agent: The first step in translating passive voice is to identify the agent. The agent refers to the person or thing that performs the action in the active voice. Once the agent is identified, the translator should decide if the agent should be included in the translated sentence or if it should be omitted, depending on the Xin and Da principles. 2.
