1)Entryofvirusisprobablythroughthemucosaoftheupperrespiratorytractandoropharynx.

2)Initialviralmultiplicationatthisportalofentryresultsindisseminationofsmallamountsofvirusviathebloodandlymphatics(theprimaryviremia).

3)Asecondaryviremiaoccursatdays

11to20,resultingisinfectionofthe

epidermisandtheappearanceofthe

characteristicskinlesions.

4)Theincubationperiodis10to21days

(usually14to15days)

5)Transmissionisbydirectcontactwith

thelesionsandbytherespiratory
