Introduction:

Englishwritingisanessentialskillforhighschoolstudentstodevelop.However,manystudentsstrugglewithwritingduetolimitedvocabularyandinadequateunderstandingofsentencestructure.Sentencecombining,whichinvolvescombiningtwoormoreshortandsimplesentencesintoamorecomplexsentence,hasbeenshowntobeaneffectivestrategyforimprovingwritingskills.

Objectives:

ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheeffectivenessofsentencecombiningindevelopinghighschoolstudentsEnglishwritingskills.Thespecificobjectivesofthestudyare:

1.Toexaminetheimpactofsentencecombiningonstudentswritingfluencyintermsofthenumberofwordsandsentencestheywrite.

2.Toinvestigatetheeffectofsentencecombiningonstudentswritingqualityintermsofgrammar,vocabulary,coherenceandorganization.

3.Toexplorestudentsattitudestowardssentencecombiningasawritingstrategy.

Methodology:

Thestudywillusearandomizedquasi-experimentaldesignwithapretest-posttestcontrolgroup.Theparticipantswillbehighschoolstudentsfromtwoclassesinalocalschool.Theclasseswillberandomlyassignedtotheexperimentalgroupandthecontrolgroup.

Theexperimentalgroupwillreceiveinstructiononsentencecombiningandwillpracticecombiningsentencesduringwritingassignments.Thecontrolgroupwillreceivethesamewritingassignmentsbutwillnotreceiveexplicitinstructiononsentencecombining.

Datawillbecollectedusingpre-andpost-tests,writingassignments,questionnaires,andinterviews.Thepre-andpost-testswillbeusedtomeasurewritingfluency,qualityandaccuracy.Thewritingassignmentswillbeusedtoassesswritingquality.Thequestionnairesandinterviewswillbeusedtogatherdataonstudentsattitudestowardssentencecombining.
