Abstract

Translationplaysanimportantroleinthecross-culturalcommunicationinthefieldoftourism.Withthedevelopmentoftourism,tourismtranslationisgettingmoreattention.Basedonthefunctionaltheory,thispaperaimstoanalyzethetranslationfeaturesandstrategiesofChinesetourismscenicspots.Thepaperfocusesontheanalysisofthetranslationofsixscenicspots,andcomparesthetranslationversionswiththeoriginalChinesetextsfromtheperspectiveofequivalence,informativeness,andacceptability.TheanalysisshowsthatthefunctionaltheoryprovidesausefulframeworkforunderstandingthetranslationofChinesetourismscenicspots.Theresultsalsosuggestthatthetranslationstrategiesshouldbeadoptedbasedontheparticularfunctionsofthetouristtexts.

Introduction

Withthedevelopmentoftourism,tourismtranslationhasbecomeanimportantfieldoftranslation.Translationhelpstobridgethecommunicationgapbetweendifferentlanguagesandcultures,facilitatingcross-culturalcommunicationbetweentouristsandlocalpeople.Tourismtranslationisacomplexanddynamicprocessbecauseitinvolveslinguistic,cultural,andcommunicativefactors.Toensurethequalityoftranslation,varioustheorieshavebeenproposedtoguidethetranslationpractice.Amongthesetheories,thefunctionaltheoryhasbeenwidelyusedintranslationstudies.

Thefunctionaltheoryviewstranslationasacommunicativeactandemphasizestherelationshipbetweenthetranslator,thesourcetextandthetargettext.Thistheoryprovidesausefulframeworkforunderstandingthepurposes,functions,andcontextsoftranslation.Inthispaper,weaimtousethefunctionaltheoryasatheoreticalframeworktoanalyze
