Whilefullhearttransplantsaremorecontroversial,pigheartvalves(瓣膜)havebeensuccessfullyusedforreplacementsinhumansforyears.

“Thiswasabreakthroughsurgeryandbringsusonestepclosertosolvingtheorganshortagecrisis.Therearesimplynotenoughdonorhumanheartsavailabletomeetthelonglistofpotentialrecipients,”saidBartleyGriffith,theheartsurgeonwhoperformedtheoperation.“Wearedoingcautiously,butwearealsooptimisticthatthisfirst-in-the-worldsurgerywillprovideanimportantnewoptionforpatientsinthefuture.”
