    Introduction

    Processwritingisawritingapproachthatinvolvesbreakingdownwritingtasksintosimpleandmanageablesteps,thusaidingwriterstoformbetterandwell-organizedpiecesofwriting.ItiswidelyusedinteachingEnglishasasecondlanguageandhasbeenshowntobeeffectiveinimprovingstudentswritingskills.ThisreportpresentstheprogressmadeintheresearchonprocesswritinginthecontextofEnglishmajorwritingcourses.

    Background

    Processwritingwasfirstdevelopedinthe1970sasanalternativetothetraditionalproduct-orientedapproachtowriting,whichfocusedmainlyonthefinaloutcomeofthewritingratherthanthewritingprocessitself(Rijlaarsdametal.,2005).Processwritingemphasizesthewritingprocess,allowingwriterstogenerate,revise,andedittheirtextsastheyprogressthroughthewritingcycle.

    ProcesswritinghasgainedpopularityinEnglishmajorwritingcoursesduetoitsadvantagesoverthetraditionalproduct-orientedapproach.Theapproachencouragesstudentstoengageinthewritingprocessbybreakingdownthewritingtasksintomanageablestages,includingbrainstorming,drafting,revising,editing,andpresenting(FlowerHayes,1980).

    Theapproachhasbeenshowntobeeffectiveinimprovingstudentswritingskills,includinggrammar,vocabulary,coherence,andorganization(Wichadee,2011).Processwritingalsoallowsformorestudentengagementandfeedbackasthestagesarebrokendownintomanageablechunksthatcanbereviewedandeditedateachstage.

    Conclusion

    ProcesswritinghasbeenshowntobeaneffectiveapproachinimprovingstudentswritingskillsinEnglishmajorwritingcourses.Despiteitseffectiveness,however,somechallenges,includingtimeconstraintsandteacherexpertise,needtobeaddressedtomaximizeitspotentialinimprovingstudentswritingproficiency.Furtherresearchisneededtoexplorethe
