Abstract

ThedataforestimatingmonetarypovertyintheSyrianevidencetoidentifygrowthinpercapitagrossdomestic

ArabRepublicareoutdated.Inthecontextofdatascar-productincurrentpricesdeflatedbyConsumerPriceIndex

city,thispaperaimstoproposeamethodologicalapproachasthebestmetrictoprojectpovertyusinganowcasting

toaddresstheknowledgegapregardingwelfareinSyriaapproach.Basedonthisanalysis,thepaperproposestouse

overthepastdecade.Inparticular,theanalysisprovides2022HumanitarianNeedsAssessmentProgramme–based

(i)updatedpre-conflictpovertybaselineestimatesbasedpovertyestimatestoanchorthemostrecentestimatesto

ongroupeddatafromthe2009HouseholdIncomeandthebestavailableevidence,andtointerpolatethepoverty

ExpenditureSurvey;(ii)supportingevidenceontheviabil-evolutionobtainedfromback-casting2
