Atransducerisadevicewhichconvertsthequantitybeingmeasuredinto
anoptical,mechanical,or-morecommonly-electricalsignal.The
energy-conversionprocessthattakesplaceisreferredtoas
transduction.
Transducersareclassifiedaccordingtothetransductionprinciple
involvedandtheformofthemeasured.Thusaresistancetransducerfor
measuringdisplacementisclassifiedasaresistancedisplacement
transducer.Otherclassificationexamplesarepressurebellows,force
diaphragm,pressureflapper-nozzle,andsoon.1、TransducerElements
Althoughthereareexception,mosttransducersconsistofasensing
elementandaconversionorcontrolelement.Forexample,
diaphragms,bellows,straintubesandrings,bourdontubes,and
cantileversaresensingelementswhichrespondtochangesinpressureor
forceandconvertthesephysicalquantitiesintoadisplacement.This
displacementmaythenbeusedtochangeanelectricalparametersuchas
voltage,resistance,capacitance,orinductance.Suchcombinationof
mechanicalandelectricalelementsformelectromechanicaltransducing
devicesortransducers.Similarcombinationcanbemadeforotherenergy
inputsuchasthermal.Photo,magneticandchemical,givingthermoelectric,
photoelectric,electromaanetic,andelectrochemicaltransducers
respectively.2、TransducerSensitivity
Therelationshipbetweenthemeasuredandthetransduceroutputsignal
isusuallyobtainedbycalibrationtestsandisreferredtoasthe
transducersensitivityK1=output-signalincrement/measuredincrement.
