monopolisticcompetitionandoptimumproductdiversity,Itrytotakestockoftheprogress
whichhasbeenmadeinapplyingtheirapproachtointernationaltradetheory.Ireviewthe
principalapplicationstotradetheoryandpresentanewone:byembeddingDSpreferences
inaspecific-factorsframework,Isketchamodelwhichshowshowmultinationalcorporations
canemergeevenbetweencountrieswithsimilarfactorendowments.Finally,Iaddresssome
limitationsoftheapproach,includingitstreatmentofvariety,returnstoscale,entryand
firms’strategies.
