If2023wastheyeartheworlddiscoveredgenerativeAI(gen
AI),2024istheyearorganizationstrulybeganusing—and
derivingbusinessvaluefrom—thisnewtechnology.Inthelatest
McKinseyGlobalSurveyonAI,65percentofrespondentsreport
thattheirorganizationsareregularlyusinggenAI,nearlydouble
thepercentagefromourprevioussurveyjusttenmonthsago.
Respondents’expectationsforgenAI’simpactremainashighas
theywerelastyear,withthree-quarterspredictingthatgenAIwill
leadtosignificantordisruptivechangeintheirindustriesinthe
yearsahead.
OrganizationsarealreadyseeingmaterialbenefitsfromgenAI
use,reportingbothcostdecreasesandrevenuejumpsinthe
businessunitsdeployingthetechnology.Thesurveyalsoprovides
insightsintothekindsofriskspresentedbygenAI—mostnotably,
inaccuracy—aswellastheemergingpracticesoftopperformersto
mitigatethosechallengesandcapturevalue.
