thealreadysuccessfulDM2AandtheDM70.Initiallythiswasafairlystraightforwardcommercial

requirementbutasthedevelopmentprogrammeprogresseditsscopewidenedintothe

developmentofnewmeasuringtechniquesandtheuseofnewmaterials.

ItculminatedintheproductionofwhatisprobablythefirstBritishLoudspeakerSystemtotake

accountofrelativephasebetweenthedriveunitsandofferingatransducerthathasasubstantially

minimumphasecharacteristicthroughouttheaudiospectrum,withtheresultantimprovementinthe

reproductionofalltransientinformation.

Technicalhighlights

TheDM6Bassunitoperatedinanenclosurevolumebetween51-60litresprovidingasystem

resonancebelow50Hz.

TheMidrangeUnitcrossesoverfromtheBassunitat500Hzandoperatesuptothepointof

crossoverbytheHFunitwhichwasestimatedaround6kHz.Inviewofthecrossover

frequencieschosenitwasnecessaryforthisunittohaveasubstantiallylinearresponsefrom

wellbelow100kHztosome10kHz.

Tocomplimenttheothertwounitsandcarrythefrequencyresponsewellabove20kHz.It

wasalsofeltdesirablethatunitshouldhavereallywidedispersionandthatitsdiameter

shouldbeassmallaspossibleconsistentwiththepowerhandlingrequired.
