Abstract—Theunderhoodautomotiveenvironmentisharshandcurrenttrends

intheautomotiveelectronicsindustrywillbepushingthetemperature

envelopeforelectroniccomponents.Thedesiretoplaceenginecontrolunits

ontheengineandtransmissioncontrolunitseitheronorinthetransmission

willpushtheambienttemperatureabove125℃.However,extremecost

pressures,increasingreliabilitydemands(10year/241350km)andthecost

offieldfailures(recalls,liability,customerloyalty)willmaketheshift

tohighertemperaturesoccurincrementally.Thecoolestspotsonengineand

inthetransmissionwillbeused.Theselargebodiesdoprovideconsiderable

heatsinkingtoreducetemperatureriseduetopowerdissipationinthecontrol

unit.Themajorityofneartermapplicationswillbeat150℃orlessand
