Ⅰ.MeasurementPurposeWhentheinsulationresistanceofthespecimenislowandtheleakagecurrentishigh,itisnotsufficienttodeterminewhetherthespecimen’soverallinsulationisunqualified.Furtherjudgmentcanbemadethroughmeasurementofdielectricloss.Iftheelectricalequipmentisexcessivelylargeinsize,differentcomponentscanbemeasuredseparatelyaccordingtotheirstructures.Dielectriclossfactormeasurementisahighlysensitivetest,itcandetectoverallmoisture,degradation,anddefectsofsmall-sizedspecimenswithorwithoutpenetration.Thetanvalueofthetestedwindingshouldnotexceed130%oftheproduct’sfactorytestvalue.

Ⅱ.TechnicalStandardsThe“TestProcedures”specifythatwhenmeasuringthetangentofthedielectriclossangle(tan)forthewindinganditsbushing,thefollowingcriteriashouldbemet:Fortransformerswithvoltageratingsof5?kVandabove,andcapacitiesof8,000?kVAandabove,thetangentofthedielectriclossangle(tan)shouldbemeasured.Qualifiedstandardsfordielectriclossasshownintable2-7.

Ⅲ.MeasurementPrincipleTanδisacharacteristicparameterthatreflectsthemagnitudeofinsulationmaterialloss,anditisparticularlysensitivetooveralldefectsinlow-capacitypowerequipment.However,forhigh-capacityandmulti-componentdevicessuchasthetransformer,cable,andgenerator,ifthedefectsintheinsulationarenotdistributeduniformlybutratherconcentratedlocally,andiftheinsulationvolumeislargerortheproportionofconcentrateddefectsissmaller,theratiooflocalizeddefectdielectriclosstothetotalinsulationdielectriclossbecomessmaller.
