Sandstormisakindofclimatichazard.Itoccurswhenstrongwindraisesandcarriesalongcloudsofsandordustwhichissodensethatitobscurethesunandreducevisibilitytolessthan1km.Sandstormusuallyoccursindesertsorareasneartoaridandsemi-aridregions.ItwasfoundinareaslikeSaharaDesertinNorthAfrica,CentralAustralia,SouthwestofUSA,CentralAsiaandNorthwestChina.

Sandstormshavebeenmoreseriousinrecentyears.Theyoccurearlierintheseasonandareaffectingawiderarea.In2006,theycameaweekearlierandtheaffectedareahadextendedbeyond3millionkm2.TheairqualityofnorthernChinahasbeenseriouslyaffectedbysandstorm.By19April2006,55outof113monitoredcitieshadseenfewercleandaysthanayearbefore.Intimesofsandstorms,peopleneedtowearmasksandtrafficwasseriouslyaffectedduetolowervisibility.Theairborneparticlesinsandstormcauseanincreaseofallergies,especiallyamongchildren.Respiratoryandeyesicknessbecomemorecommon.Medicalexpensesoffamiliesmayincrease.Whataretheeffectsofsandstormsonhumanactivities?Whataretheeffectsofsandstormsonhumanactivities?
