1.OriginsofElectricalNoise

Electricalnoiseappearsinanelectricalcircuitthroughoneoffourroutes:

a.Impedance(GroundLoop)Coupling

b.Capacitive(Electrostatic)Coupling

c.Inductive(Magnetic)Coupling

d.Electromagnetic(RadioFrequency)Coupling

Impedance(GroundLoop)Coupling

Impedancecoupling,sometimesreferredtoasgroundloop,isverycommonin

servosystems.Systemsatriskincludethosewithsensorsanddevices

connectedatvariousphysicallocationsonamachineatdistancesofonefoot

andgreater.Theimpedanceofawireordeviceisacombinationofthe

resistance,capacitance,andinductanceproperties.Intheory,wireconnections

inacircuitareassumedtohavezeroimpedance,butinpractice,thisisnotthe

case.Thevoltagelevelofagroundwirevariesatdifferentlocationsonthewire,

andifthisvoltagedifferenceishighenough,unpredictableperformancecan

result.Forexample,considerthissimplecircuit:
