•Introducevocabularywordsandactivatepriorknowledgethroughdiscussionusingaconceptweb,

pictures,models,ortoys.

•Toprovideabasisforunderstandinganddiscussion,readthewordsincontextworksheetaloudwith

students.Ifappropriate,havethemgeneratetheirownexamplesofwordsincontext.

Classwork/:Havestudentscompletethewordsmartgraphicorganizerforselectwords.

Encouragethemtogenerateasynonymandanantonym,drawapicture,writeasentence,and

formulateadefinitionforeachselectedvocabularyword,asappropriateforyourgroupofstudents.

DAY2UseVocabularyinContextandReinforceMeaning

Materials:Wordcards,definitioncards,analogyworksheet,clozesentenceworksheet

•ReviewthewordsmartassignmentfromDAY1.Allowstudentstodiscussandcomparetheir

definitionsandmakerevisionsontheirwordsmartworksheet.

•Givestudentsthedefinitioncardsandhavethemcheckthepartofspeechandmatchthedefinition

withthecorrespondingwordcard.Ifappropriate,givethemtheopportunitytousethedefinition

cardstocheckandrevisethedefinitionstheywroteontheirwordsmartworksheets.

•Usingthewordcards,encouragestudentstodoanopensortorsortthewordsbypartofspeech.

Additionally,youmaychoosetoreviewtheanalogyworksheetwithstudents.Ifappropriate,have

themgeneratetheirownanalogies.
