Abstract.Detailsoftheendolymphaticstructuresaredescribedforthefirsttimeintheheadshieldsoftheosteostracangenus
TremataspisfromtheSilurianofEstonia.Tinyplatelets,heretermedcoveringplatelets,arelocatedwithintheopeningsofthe
endolymphaticduct.Thedetailsoftheirshapesandarrangementsdifferamongthefourstudiedspecies.InTremataspisschmidti
RohonandTremataspismilleriPatten,thecoveringplateletsareusuallyarrangedinanovalorcircularshapearoundtheopeningof
theendolymphaticduct.Thesespeciescanhavesmooth,flatcoveringplateletsatthemouthofanirregularlyfunnel-shapedaperture
inthedorsalshield;thefunneloftenhasaposteriorextension.InTremataspisrohoniRobertsonandTremataspismammillataPatten,
adistinctcirculararrangementofplateletsdoesnotoccur;instead,theirfunnelwascappedwithafew(2–3)smooth,flatcovering
platelets.ThefunnelofT.millerisometimeshasalongpostero-lateralextension,whilethat
