Hitahassincewidenedthescope(范围)ofherproject,whichisbackedbydonationsthroughaGoFundMepageaswellastheworkofanexpandingarmyofvolunteers.TheprojecthasreachedasfarasHawaiiandnowincludesvideomessagesaswellasthedeliveryofsmartdevicestohelpresidentscommunicatewithlovedones.“We’vebeenabletoreachsomanyseniors-whoareamongtheloneliestpeopleinoursociety-andletthemknowtheyarenotalone,”Hitasaid.

Hita’sprojecthasliftedspiritsattheGenesisWayneCenter,accordingtoKayleeNichols,thefacility’sdirector.“It’simpressivetoseeahighschoolstudenttakethatkindofinitiative,”Nicholssaid.“Thatgeneration,theynormallydon’tthinkaboutseniors.”

Hitawasmotivatedtotakeactionwhenofficialsatthenursinghomewheresheusedtovolunteersaidthatshecouldn’tvisitanymorebecauseofthecoronavirusoutbreak.Itmadeherdeterminedtodosomethingelsetotrytohelp.ShestartedtheGoFundMepage,expandedthefoundation’swebsiteandbeganorganizingvolunteersfromaroundthecountrytowritecardsormakevideosfornursinghomeresidents,whohavebeenthemostseverelyimpactedbyCOVID-19.Hitaalsoexpandedherprojecttoincludetheacquisition(收购)anddistributionofsmartdevicestonursinghomesandlong-termcarefacilit
