ABSTRACT
TheEarlyDevonianpsammosteidagnathans(GuerichosteusandHariosteus)
originallydescribedbyTarlo(1964,1965)fromtheso-called“PlacodermSandstone”
arerevised.ThenewlycollectedmaterialfromtheHolyCrossMountainsallows
detailedreexaminationandprovidesnewanatomicalinformation.Themorphologyand
ornamentationoftheplatessupportstheestablishmentofthegeneraGuerichosteus
andHariosteus.However,G.kotanskii,G.kulczyckiiandG.lefeldishouldbeconsid-
eredasjuniorsynonymsofGuerichosteuskozlowskii.Hariosteuslobanowskii,erected
byTarlo(1964),isconsideredhereasinvalid(nomendubium)andH.kotanskiiis
includedwithHariosteuskielanae.Thethree-dimensionalscanningofplatesbelonging
toGuerichosteusallowsforamoredetaileddescriptionandreconstruction.Incross
sectionthedeepventralpartofthetrunkisV-shapedincontrasttopreviousU-shaped
restorations.Probably,theEarlyDevonianpsammosteid,Drepanaspisgemuendenesis
inparticular,sharedthisbodyshape.
