Symptoms:

WhentheCC-SGHardwareAppliance(shippedfromthefactoryinearly2017)withﬁrmware

releases6.2.0orearlierisupgradedtonewerﬁrmwarereleases,usersmayexperienceanerror

message“Failedtoconstructcomponentinstance”whenaccessingthenodes/targets.Inrare

cases,CC-SGmayexperiencebootfailureaftertheupgrade.

RootCause:

CC-SGusesthebootpartitionforitsoperatingsystembootﬁlesandrelatedservices.Thehardware

appliancesshippedfromthefactory(priortoearly2017)withﬁrmwarereleasespriortothe6.2.0

releasewithaﬁxedbootpartitionsize.ThesubsequentCC-SGﬁrmwareupgradeincludesupdates

totheoperatingsystemandservicewithlargerﬁlesleavingbehindolderﬁlesinthebootpartition.

Thiscausesbootpartitionspaceconstraintsandcausesissueswiththeﬁrmwareupgradeandthe

reportedissue.

Ifthebootpartitionutilizationisabove50%,upgradingtoCC-SGmaycauseCC-SGbootfailureor

resultinnodeaccessissueswitherrorsreportedinthesymptomsabove.

CC-SGhardwareappliancewith7.0andlaterreleasesshippedfromthefactory(andvirtual

appliances)hasalargerbootpartitionsizeandisNOTaectedbythisissue.

Solution:

Ifthebootpartitionisabove50%utilization,pleasecontactthetechnicalsupportteamtoobtaina

patchtofreeupthespaceforthebootpartitionbeforeapplyingtheﬁrmwareupgrade.

Pleasecheckthe/bootpartitionutilizationatyourcurrentﬁrmwarerelease.

Tocheckthe/bootpartitionutilization,logintoCC-SGontheadmindiagnosticconsoleand

navigatetoOperationUtilitiesDisk/RAIDUtilizationRAIDStatus+DiskUtilization
