threeparts(i.e.tripartite),theid,egoandsuperego,alldevelopingatdifferentstagesin
ourlives.
Thesearesystems,notpartsofthebrain,orinanywayphysical.

Theidistheprimitiveandinstinctivecomponentofality.Itconsistsofallthe
inherited(i.e.biological)componentsofality,includingthe(life)instinct
–Eros(whichcontainsthelibido),andtheaggressive(death)instinct-Thanatos.
Theidistheimpulsive(andunconscious)partofourpsychewhichrespondsdirectlyand
immediatelytotheinstincts.Thealityofthenewbornchildisallidandonlylater
doesitdevelopanegoandsuper-ego.
