Distributedledgertechnologyhasbeengenerating

headlinesformorethanadecade,eventhoughtherehavebeenalimitednumberofusecases.Butnow,

that’spoisedtochange.Stablecoins—blockchain-basedtokensissuedbyregulatedprivateentities—couldtakedigitalassetsintothefinancialand

corporatemainstream.

Stablecoins’valueistypicallypeggedtoa

government-issuedcurrency,mostcommonlytheUSdollar.UnlikecryptocurrenciessuchasBitcoinor

Ethereum,Stablecoin’spricestabilityismaintainedbyprivateissuersthatholdequivalentreservesinhighlyliquid,low-riskassets,oftenshort-termUSTreasuriesorcash.Stablecoinsaredistinctfromcentralbank

digitalcurrencies(CBDCs),whicharelegaltenderofmoneyissueddirectlybycentralbanks.

Unlikeothercryptocurrencies,stablecoinsoffera

uniquecombinationofopeninteroperability,

settlementflexibility,andintegrationwith
