6.1概述

数词（Numeral）分为基数词（CardinalNumeral）和序数词（OrdinalNumeral）。现把它们的用法列举如下：

注意：first，second，third以及和它们一起组成的高位序数词以外，序数词的构成方法是在相应的基数词之后加-th（读作[θ]），但要注意fifth，eighth，ninth，twelfth等不规则拼法。twenty，thirty等在变为序数词时，要把y变成i，再加-eth（读作[iθ]或[eθ]）。

6.2数词的用法

（1）在一起使用时，通常是序数词位于基数词之前，如：

thefirstthreeprizes头三个奖

试比较：threefirstprizes三个头奖

（2）基数词和序数词都通常位于其他限定词之后，如：

thesethreeyears，asecondbird

有时序数词可位于某些数量限定词之前，如：

thefirstfewdays

（3）hundred，thousand和million在表示确切数字时不用复数形式，如：

twohundred（years）200（年）

threethousandtwohundred3，200

试比较：hundredsoftimes几百次

thousandsofcars数以千计的车辆

millionsofpeople数百万人

（4）读数注意：

①在读100，1000和1，000，000时或用单词把它们写出时，前面需有一个限定词，通常用a，如：

￡1，000—athousandpounds

在表示强调时要用one，如：

Youneedtolendmetwothousanddollars，notone.

你需借我2000美元，不是1000。

②在读100以上的数字时，只要最末两位数不是00，英国英语要求在最后两个数之间加上and，如：

203—twohundredandthree

5003—fivethousandandthree

1350—onethousand，threehundredandfifty

3856—threethousand，eighthundredandfifty-six

但：6，200—sixthousand，twohundred

从1，100至1，900的数字，既可以读作elevenhundred，又可读作onethousandonehundred等。

“零”（0）在英国英语中写作nought，在美国英语中写作zero。

③读电话号码时，通常是逐个数码地读，其中0读作oh或zero。在遇到相同数码时，可以使用double一词，如：

240，2044—two-four-oh，two-oh-doublefour

④用四个数码表示的年代通常分成两部分来读，如：

1949—nineteenforty-nine

1902—nineteen（hundred）andtwo

（5）分数、小数和百分数表示法：

①分数（Fraction）的分子以基数词表示，分母以序数词表
