Ashockabsorberisadeviceforreducingtheeffectofasuddenshockbythedissipationoftheshock’senergy.Onanautomobile,springsandshockabsorbersaremountedbetweenthewheelsandtheframe.Whenthewheelshitaholeoraraisedspotonaroad,thespringsabsorbtheresultantshockbyexpandingandcontracting.Topreventthespringsfromshakingtheframeexcessively,theirmotionisrestrainedbyshockabsorbers,whicharealsoknownbythemoredescriptivetermdampers.Thetypeofshockabsorberfoundonautomobilesisusuallyahydraulictypethathasacasingconsistingoftwotubes,onetelescopingintotheother.Inorderforaspringtoexpandandcontract,itmustpullapartandpushtogethertheendsofthisshockabsorber.Buttheendsoffersomuchresistancethatthemotionofthespringquicklydiesout.Theendsareconnectedtoapistoninanoil-filledchamberintheshockabsorber’sinnertube.Thepistoncanonly
