Theinternationalstudy,publishedinNature,basedongeneticdatafrommorethan45,000autisticpeopleinEuropeandtheUS,foundthattheunderlyinggeneticprofilesdifferedgreatlybetweenthosediagnosedwithautismearlierandlaterinlife,withonlylimitedoverlap.Itshowedthattheaveragegeneticprofileoflater-diagnosedautismisclosertothatofADHD(amentaldisease),aswellastomentalhealthconditionssuchasdepressionandPTSD,thanitistoautismdiagnosedinearlychildhood.

Thosediagnosedinearlychildhood,typicallybeforesixyearsold,weremorelikelytoshowbehaviouraldifficultiesfromearlychildhood,includingdifficultyinwalkingfastandinterpretinghandgestures,aswellasproblemswithsocialinteraction,butremainstable.Thosediagnosedwithautismlater,typicallyaftertheageof10,weremorelikelytoexperienceincreasingsocial
