TheNationalBuildingInformationModelStandard-UnitedStatesVersion2(NBIMS-USV2)isthesecond

versionofanongoingprojectofthebuildingSMARTalliance™(bSa),theNorthernAmericanChapterof

buildingSMART®International(bSI).

Version2hasbeenextensivelyrevisedwithadditionalmaterialandorganizedaccordingtoISO/IEC

Directives–Part2:RulesforthestructureanddraftingofInternationalStandards.

ThepurposeoftheNationalBIMStandard-US™(NBIMS-US)istoadvancetheartandscienceofthe

entirelife-cycleoftheverticalandhorizontalbuiltenvironmentbyprovidingameansoforganizingand

classifyingelectronicobjectdataandtherebyfosteringstreamlinedcommunicationamongowners,

designers,materialsuppliers,constructors,facilitymanagers,andallstakeholdersassociatedwiththe

builtenvironment.(Paragraph1.3afromtheRulesofGovernance,January2011)

TheintentofVersion2istoencouragefurtherproductivepracticesbyallmembersofthe

architect/designer,engineer,contractor,owner,andoperator(AECOO)teamforthelife-cycleofa

project.Thisandsucceedingversionswillprovidethenecessarystructureandframeworkfora

collaborativebasisfortheprocess,theethicsoftrustbetweentheprofessionals,thestandardsfor

buildinginformationtechnologies,andasystemforanintegratedpracticewithinanopen,non-

proprietary,standardaccessibletoallprofessionalswithintheindustry.
