Theimperativetotransitiontowardsmore

sustainable,circularandjusteconomiesand

societieshasneverbeenmoreurgent.The“take-make-waste”linearmodelhaspushedplanetary

boundariestotheirlimitsandexacerbatedsocialinequalitiesaroundtheworld.Meanwhile,globalcircularityratescontinuetofall,from9.1%in2018to6.9%in2025.

Atthesametime,thereisgrowingevidencethat

thetransitiontothecirculareconomypresentsan

opportunitytogeneratemuch-neededemployment.Thisfirstcomprehensiveglobalbaselinerevealsthatbetween121to142millionpeopleareemployed

inthecirculareconomy.Thisisequivalentto

5-5.8%oftotalemploymentglobally,notincludingemploymentinagriculture.Womenconstitute26percentofthecircularworkforce.However,thesenumbersaremostlikelyjustthetipoftheiceberg.Officialstatistics,onwhichthisbaselinerelies,donotyetfullycapturethemillionsthatworkintheinformalsegmentsofthecirculareconomy.

Thisreportdemonstratesthatcircularityisfirmlyembeddedacrossallcountries,sectorsandvaluechains.Byquantifyingbothformaland,tothe

extentpossible,informalemployment,itprovidesthefirstandmostcomprehensivepictureof

employmentinthecirculareconomytoday.Itsetsthefoundationfo
