Myplanwasworkingoutjustfine.Tobywasusinguphisenergybyrunningbackandforthinthebackyardandgivingthekidsplentyofroom.Unexpectedly,aftersupper,theweatherchanged.Itstartedtorainandeveryonewentindoors.

Itwasanawkwardmoment.Ididn’twantTobytoberunningaroundinthehouse,andmybrotherwasn’thappywithdrivinghomewithawetdog.Eventually,mybrotherdecidedtoleaveratherthanforcetheissue.

Afewdayspassed,andIhadn’theardanythingfrommybrother.Itextedhimandexpressedwishesforhimtocomeoutagain.Hisreplycameasasurprise—ashock,actually:“Notachance.”Clearly,hewasunhappyoverthewaywehadparted.Afterall,Ihadlefthimlittlechoice.Well,he’llgetoverit,Ireasoned.

Twomonthspassed.MywifesuggestedIgetintouchwithmybrother,butIresisted,thinkingheshouldcallfirst.However,myconscience(良心)keptbotheringme.Itriedtoputmyselfinmybrother’sshoes.Hewasfacinghealthissuesandhiswifeofthirty-fiveyearshadpassedawayafewmonthsearlier.Tobywashisconstantcompanion,theonewhokepthimgoing.
