Abstract

Aroll-backmethodisproposedtopredicttheoptimuminitialblankshapeinthesheetmetalformingprocess.Themethodtakesthe

differencebetweenthe®naldeformedshapeandthetargetcontourshapeintoaccount.Basedonthemethod,acomputerprogram

composedofablankdesignmodule,anFE-analysisprogramandameshgenerationmoduleisdeveloped.Theroll-backmethodisapplied

tothedrawingofasquarecupwiththe¯angeofuniformsizearounditsperiphery,tocon®rmitsvalidity.Goodagreementisrecognized

betweenthenumericalresultsandthepublishedresultsforinitialblankshapeandthicknessstraindistribution.Theoptimumblankshapes

fortwopartsofanautomobilesub-framearedesigned.Boththethicknessdistributionandthelevelofpunchloadareimprovedwiththe

designedblank.Also,themethodisappliedtodesigntheweldlineinatailor-weldedblank.Itisconcludedthattheroll-backmethodisan
