RotorSpinning

Rotorspinninginvolvestheseparationoffibersbyvigorousdrafting,andthen

drawframesliverispresentedtoaspring-loadedfeedplateandfeedroller.Fibers

separatedfurtherandparallelizedbeforebeingdepositedontheinsidewallofthe

rotor.Centrifugalforces,generatedbytherotorturningathighspeeds,causethe

fiberstocollectalongthewalloftherotor,formingaring.Thefiberringisthen

asitispulledoutoftherotorthroughanavel.Theyarnisthentakenupontoa

maywraparoundtheyarn,resultingintheformationofundesirable,randomwrapper

twistinsertion.

FiberSeparation

Fiberseparationiscriticalinrotorspinningforeffectiveorientationofthefibers

before

qualityyarnwiththebestpossiblefiberorientationcannotbeformed.

Themostcommonmethodforfiberseparationincorporatestheuseofcombing

rollercoveredwithsaw-toothwire.Sliverisfedintotherotationalactionofthe

rotorinsmalllayersovermanyrevolutions.

Anothercriticalfunctionofthecombingrolleristheremovaloftrashfromthe

sliver.Well-cleanedslivershouldbepresentedtothesystem.Somedustanddirt

particles,however,willstillbepresentinthecleanestsliver,especiallyifcottonis

outofthesystem.Ifthefibersarenotcleanondeliverytotheopen-endsystem,

excessivefineparticlesanddustwilldepositintherotor,preventinguniformfiber

alignment.Asaresultofparticlebuildup,yarnofpoorquality(withpoorfiber

orientation,lowerstrength,andincreasedimperfections)isproduced.

Fibertransport

Onceremovedfromthecombingroller,thefibersmustbetransportedtotherotor

andfibersduringmovementthroughthetube.Thisfiberaccelerationhelpsto

straightenoutsomefiberhooksexistingfromthefibersleavingthecombingroller.
