Can you come to my party? 3a-3c Main Learning Objectives ★ Review and learn some words and useful expressions Review and practice words (E.g. calendar、the day after tomorrow、weekend、weekday、invitation、lesson、concert、go to the doctor、go to movies) and then use them to talk about plan and make and accept invitations. Learn and practice new words (E.g. training、chemistry) and use them to read the e-mails in 3a. ★ Learn some language items and communicative functions Review and practice the following sentence structures: 1. I’m + Verb + ing 2. I have to + Verb Use the above sentence patterns: to express obligation and accept and decline invitations and read and write invitation e-mail. ★ Learn to use different language skills and strategies in terms of students’ interest and different reading materials. (1) Skimming for the general idea of the passage by focusing on the topic sentence. (2) Focusing on the detailed information by completing Sonia’s calendar. (3) Writing a reply e-mail by imitating the structure of the reading material. ★ Attitude and significance of listening (1) Encourage Ss to express their opinion of making, accepting and declining invitations. (2) Develop Ss to have a polite attitude toward invitations. 3. Teaching Procedures Stage1:Pre-reading: Revision and lead-in (5 minutes) Step1: T exchanges greet with Ss. Step2: T guides Ss to review what they have learnt last class. Step3: T presents some pictures of Henry, Sonia and Tony and explains the background information to Ss. a received e-mail from Rose. Step4: T presents a e-mail form Henry and instructs Ss to skim for the main idea of the e-mail and predict whether Sonia and Tony will accept Henry’s invitation or not. Stage 2: While-reading (25 minutes) Step1: Ss read the e-mail quickly for the general idea by finding the answer for a question (Can Sonia visit Henry next week? Why can’t she visit Henry?
