IntroductionWith the globalization, the whole world is becoming a village where English is sure to be the most popular language for cross-cultural communication. With the successful holding of 2008 Olympics, communication in English is no longer only satisfied with written English but also relied on oral English.?As people are getting crazy about mastering written and oral English skill, various learning and teaching methods of oral English step out. Some are derived from advanced linguistic theories, some find their support from learning psychologies, while others turn to new technologies like Internet and specially designed software. Learners usually feel overwhelmed when they are busy trying out every new strategy that is newly brought out. Communicative language learning has been so pervading in the last decade that almost every learner and teacher would think of learning English by communicating with others in English. In the meantime, some traditional learning methods and strategies like reading aloud, recitation are being looked down upon with rote learning even abandoned. However, those imported methods hadn’t brought any satisfactory results, people still feel learning English is a hard nut. In particular, communicative approach is hard to carry out either in classroom or out of classroom. Both linguists and English teachers should admit one fact: the biggest obstacle which hinders learner from expressing in English is actually language form, at least at present. Even if we can create atmosphere or activities much like the real setting, both the chance and time is limited for a large class, when out of classroom, this communicative environment disappears immediately.?In contrast to this situation, some traditional learning methods display strong vitality and vigor.
