A Teaching Plan for Dear Hannahs Advice Column By Liu Jing from Wuyuan Middle School Ⅰ.Teaching Aims and Demands: 1. Language Focus The students will be able to master the following new words and phrases: column, complaint, competitive, compete, ignore, hopefully, lose their cool and so on. 2. Reading skill: (1) To let the students learn to predict something according to some information in the text. (2) To let the students learn to get the details from the reading passage to check their predictions. (3) To understand the text concerning Sang-mi’s problem and Hannah’s advice. Ⅱ.Important and difficult points 1. To learn to how to predict. 2. To get information from the reading material in relation to Sang-mi’s problem and Hannah’s advice. Ⅲ.Teaching Style : Reading Ⅳ.Teaching Aids: CAI, Blackboard Ⅴ.Teaching Procedures: Step1 Lead-in Introduce myself and talk about my feeling about coming here. Talk about the problems: What problem do you often meet? Discuss the ways they solve the problems: When you meet some problems, who do you ask for help? Or how do you solve it? Step2 Presentation 1. Show them my school newspaper and introduce the advice column. 2. Introduce Dear Hannahs Advice Column Step3 Before Reading 1. Look at the title of the text and the photo. What kind of text is it? 2. Predict something about Sang-mi’s letter: 1) Read the beginning of the letter, then predict Sang-mi’s problem with Lisa. 2) Read the next part of the letter below. Then predict what Sany-mi’s writes next. 3) Predict what Sang-mi will do at the end of the letter. Step 4 While Reading Read Sang-mi’s letter and check your predictions.. Careful reading: Let the students read paragraphs one by one to understand the details. And answer the questions: 1). How do you know? 2). Why does Sang-mi write the letter? 3. Circle the word chunks that are true for the text. 4. Predict what Hannah will advise Sang-mi to do. 5. Read Hannah’s reply and check the prediction. 6.
