IntroductionOne of the basic requirements for education in the future is to prepare learners for participation in a global and information society in which cooperation and communication play important roles and become parts of social life as well. In the domain of language learning, communication has long been the desired outcome of foreign language classrooms. Much research has shown that as opportunities to use the language in meaningful situations increase, so does the acquisition of the foreign language. The purpose of this paper is to discuss cooperative learning as one of the methods of effectiveness. Cooperative learning is an instructional method whereby students are encouraged or required to work together on learning tasks. This paper is mainly about the importance and possibilities of using cooperative learning tasks in English class at middle school in china. The significance of the study is to declare that, with the proper use, cooperative learning can add an extra dimension to English language teaching in china, truly enhance the language learning process and learning efficiency, and provide an excellent environment for learners. The students have become the main body of classroom teaching. The student-centered class has taken the place of the teacher-centered class. There are three parts in this thesis. In the first part, there is an overview of cooperative learning: its background and the basic elements of cooperative learning. In the second part, the author describes the implementation of cooperative learning in writing, reading and listening English class. The last part, the author discusses the advantages for implementation of cooperative learning in middle school English class.II. An Overview of Cooperative LearningA.
