“Culture Infusion”? How to understand the “Culture”? What kind of culture do we need for people living in the big cities? What kind of culture are we missing? In Beijing’s CBD, people work, go shopping and go home afterwards. We are hurried passer-by of the big city. The life represents the culture of contemporary Beijing. However, we can see a harmonious life in Hutong, like planting flowers, walking out with birds in the cages, or have a celebration together. This represents the civilian culture of traditional Beijing. The life and civilian culture is what we are missing indeed. Cable 8 is the last factory in Beijing’s CBD, which is located in the core of CBD. Cable 8 has unique historical meaning and human scale buildings. This is a big contrast to the surrounding new built high-rise buildings. Cable 8 has a very potential to become the heart of Beijing’s CBD. It will give energy and life for every ordinary person. Site analysis and the problems Based on the site analysis, I found Cable 8 is located in a superblock. There is only one entrance and exit to the site. The accessibility and interaction with the surroundings are quite poor. According to the roads of surrounding blocks, the block where Cable 8 locates will be divided into several human scale blocks. The west part of Cable 8 is the biggest not well used green area in Beijing’s CBD. We need to combine Cable 8 and the green area as a whole unit and achieve for a rich cultural atmosphere. Based on the analysis of traffic, landscape, function, activity and open space, I found a lot of problems. The car is quite dominating in the site. It is not suitable for the intimate communication between people and the environment. People flows mainly stay in one side and there barely no people in the other side. People need to visit from the ground floor to the top and continue the same way the othe
