Why they suddenly disappered still remaines a mystery. remain: ⑴ vi. 留下；剩下 ⑵ link.v +n. /adj. / to be done 依然不变，继续，保持 e.g. Where he has gone remains a mystery. The door remained locked. It sounds like a good idea,but it remains to be seen whether it will succed. The fact remains to be proved. remaining adj. 剩下的，作前置定语 ，用法同the rest of ; left 作“剩下的”讲时。作后 置定语 e.g. He bought a gift for his daughter ,using the remaining money/ the rest of (his ) money/ the money left. We shall feel its gravity pulling us, but it will not be as strong a pull as the earth’s.
