E lectricity u sage in re siden tial and comm ercial bu ildings rep re sen ts a sign ifican t fraction of total energy exp enditu re. A key p rerequ isite for energy con servation is know ing when and where energy is being sp en t. However, in the cu rren t energy reporting device s on ly p rovide coarse grained inform ation. Th is p ap er p re sen ts a fine grained power auditing system ba sed on the sen sor network s. Th is system can p rovide detailed inform ation abou t the total energy con sump tion in any p eriod for each app liance and thu s w ill becom e an efficien t too l for fu tu re realtim e p ricing. A t the sam e, som e behavior model can be drawn from the co llected data ba sed on the p ropo sed system.
