(Writing a report)
Teaching goals
To describe two pictures explaining the differences between past and present situations
To generate ideas to describe specific details shown in pictures
To organize language and descriptions to write a comparison
To select descriptive information to write a report
To describe the changes to a place
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Having a free discussion
Ask the students to have a free discussion:
“ The changes to school /family /festival /lifestyle /city/…”
Model: The changes to my school
My school has changed a lot since I left it five years ago. The school yard is bigger that before. The timetable looks more beautiful. There are a lot more subjects offered in the school. The umbers of the students and teachers have also increased. There are more after school activities for the students. Ands the Teaching condition is becoming better and better.
Step 2 Presenting
Amy plans to write about the changes to Moonlight Town for her project. She has got an old photo and a recent photo of the town.
Show the photos to the students, and then ask them to talk about the photos in groups of four or five.
Talk about the differences between them, and then show the fact file to the students,

Step 4 Reading the article
Ask the students to read the report. Then tell them about other changes that Amy didn’t mention. E.g. Moonlight Town is noisier now. There are more shops and businesses, and the roads are busier, etc.
Step 5 Presenting
Now tell the students that they will have to do some research in order to write their repor
