Two strategies including utilization of the safe marker genes and marker-free techni ues are usually exploited for the production of the transgenic plants. In this paper, the advances in the recent research of the uti- lization of the safe marker genes and marker-free techni ues were reviewed and the possible applications of these tech- ni ueswere also discussed.
